Weekend intensivo con Jori Snell
Genova, 7–8 marzo 2026
Ispirandoci alle radici e ai primi anni della Contact Improvisation, quando la pratica veniva testimoniata tra danzatori e anche da un pubblico, ci “addentreremo con gradualità” nel testimoniare reciproco, invitando a un embodied witnessing (testimonianza incarnata) che emerga lungo il percorso.
Il mio interesse per il campo dell’“embodied witnessing” è cresciuto negli anni, sia come improvvisatrice/danzatrice sia come modo di stare nella vita. Ho scoperto che rende la danza di CI più interessante da guardare e più nutriente da praticare, poiché permette alla danza di diventare parte di un ecosistema più ampio, un campo di interconnessione e di gioco spontaneo. Per chi ama le jam, questo può essere un materiale stimolante da portare all’interno delle jam stesse.
Partiremo da un “luogo naturale” dentro di noi, sostenuti da pratiche somatiche guidate di CI, con l’obiettivo di accedere a un flusso naturale e a una qualità di essere nel corpo/mente in movimento. Liberando un legame libero e connesso con il nostro corpo, “alleneremo” i muscoli e le abilità necessarie per accedere a una consapevolezza espansa della totalità più ampia della nostra danza: noi stessi, gli altri con cui danziamo, lo spazio, e la consapevolezza della composizione istantanea, del disegno e del lavoro di gruppo.
Come possiamo leggere e servire al meglio ciò di cui lo spazio ha bisogno, rimanendo allo stesso tempo in assoluta connessione con noi stessi?
Questo workshop è aperto a chiunque sia interessato a esplorare questo materiale e può essere visto anche come una continuazione del workshop dello scorso anno, per chi desidera immergersi più a fondo.
JORI SNELL (NL/DK)
È un’artista performativa e visiva fisica di origine olandese/danese (1972). Lavora come performer freelance, improvvisatrice, regista e insegnante, trasformando la sua formazione in teatro fisico, contact improvisation, butoh, arti marziali e arti visive in un linguaggio personale.
Ha collaborato con compagnie quali: Odin Teatret (DK), Teatret OM (DK), Corona la Balance/ZeBU (DK) e Panthéâtre (Roy Hart Theatre, FR), Su-En Butoh Company (SE).
Tra il 2008 e il 2016, vivendo a Città del Capo (Sudafrica), ha creato lavori per e con compagnie come FTH:K & Ubom! (teatri fisici/visivi) e Remix Dance Company (danza a abilità miste).
È stata l’iniziatrice e la sostenitrice della scena di Contact Improvisation a Città del Capo. La sua ispirazione nel Butoh, nella CI e nell’improvvisazione è cresciuta e si è sviluppata attraverso gli incontri con Tadashi Endo, Su-En, Kitt Johnson, Kirstie Simson, Katie Duck, Lucia Walker, Ray Chung, Nancy Stark Smith e molti altri.
Dal 2016 collabora intensamente con Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood, insegnando e performando in Canada, Danimarca, Sudafrica e Costa Rica. È profondamente appassionata nel condividere il suo lavoro con le comunità locali di danza e arte. Nel suo lavoro e nell’insegnamento mira a far emergere un’espressione autentica di corpo, mente e spazio, muovendosi tra danza, mito e poesia, con un amore per la creazione spontanea, viva e improvvisata di immagini.

Il workshop ha l'obiettivo di creare un gruppo intimo e, per questo motivo, avrà un limite di 20 partecipanti.
Non è richiesta alcuna precedente esperienza di Contact Improvisation.
Il workshop sarà in inglese e tradotto in italiano se necessario.

From Somatic to Performative Awareness
In Contact Improvisation practice
12hs intensive with Jori Snell
Genova, 7-8 March 2026
Inspired by the very roots and early years of CI where the practice was witnessed by each other and by an audience, we will “ease” into witnessing each other, inviting for an “embodied witnessing” as we go.
My interest in the field of “embodied witnessing” has grown over the years, both as an improviser/dancer and as a way of living. I have found it makes the CI dance more interesting to watch and more enriching to do, as it allows the dance to become part of a bigger ecosystem, a field of interconnectivity and spontaneous play. For those of us who like to jam, this can be interesting material to bring into our jams.
We will start from a “natural place” in us, supported by somatic guided CI practices, aiming to access a natural flow and being-ness in our moving body/mind. Unleashing a free and connected bond with our body; we will “train” the muscles and skills of accessing an expanded awareness of the bigger totality of our dance: ourselves, the others we dance with, the space, and awareness of instant composition, design, group work.
How can we read and serve best what the space needs, while being in absolute connection to ourselves?
This workshop open for anyone interested in exploring this material, and can also be seen as a continuation of last years workshop, for those who wish to dive deeper.
JORI SNELL (NL/DK)
is a physical performing-and visual artist from Holland/Denmark (1972). She works as a freelance performer, improviser, director and teacher, transforming her training in physical theatre, contact improvisation, butoh, martial arts and visual arts into a personal language. Companies she has worked with are: Odin Teatret (DK), Teatret OM (DK), Corona la Balance/ZeBU(DK) and Panthéâtre (Roy Hart Theatre, FR), Su-En Butoh company (SE).
Between 2008-2016, based in Cape Town, South Africa, she created works for/with companies such as FTH:K & Ubom! (Physical/Visual Theatres) and Remix Dance Company (Mixed Ability Dance).
She initiated and sustained the CI scene in Cape Town. Her inspiration in Butoh, CI and Improvisation has grown and developed through her meetings with Tadashi Endo, Su-En, Kitt Johnson, Kirstie Simson, Katie Duck, Lucia Walker, Ray Chung, Nancy Stark Smith and many others. Since 2016 she has collaborated intensively with Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood, teaching and performing in Canada, Denmark, South Africa and Costa Rica. She is passionate about sharing her work in local dance and art communities. In her work and teaching she aims to bring alive an authentic expression in body, mind and space, moving between dance, myth & poetry with a love for spontaneous, alive and improvised image-making.

The workshop will be in English and translated into Italian if necessary. The workshop aims to create an intimate group and is therefore limited to 20 participants.
