About this Event
Bundle up and immerse yourself in the serene magic of winter at Sidewalk Detroit’s Winter Fest—a seasonal gathering that encourages you to slow down, connect with nature, and uncover the hidden hues of the colder months.
Event Highlights:
- Scenic Walk: Stroll along the Rouge River and through the woods with nature photographer Edgar Cardenas.
- Capture the Moment: Participants are invited to photograph the season's subtle beauty—from the gentle winter light to unexpected bursts of color—and share their images online using the hashtag *#EHPWinter*.
- Warmth and Comfort: Enjoy cozy bonfires and complimentary hot chocolate smores as you explore, reflect, and connect with the landscape around you.
Whether you’re a passionate photographer or simply enjoy wandering, Winter Fest offers a delightful way to celebrate the tranquility, wonder, and artistry of winter in the park.
Edgar Cardenas is an artist whose work explores relationships between people, place, and land. Raised in rural Wisconsin, his practice is shaped by the tension between lived experience and inherited cultural narratives, particularly around identity, environment, and belonging. Using photography, video, and sound, Edgar creates work that invites dialogue and challenges how we understand everyday landscapes. He holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability from Arizona State University and is the author of Between Two Pines. He lives and works in Detroit.
