About this Event
Come on out for the Elevated Yoga & Sound Journey on Sunday, April 12th from 4pm - 7pm at Awoken Space! This event fuses all of my favorite things - being near the beach, building community, expanding our consciousness with herbs, yoga & sound healing, and catching a beautiful ocean-view sunset off the rooftop of Malibu’s highest vibrational frequency yoga studio!
Think of this workshop as a collective self-care session, with the opportunity to have heart-centered conversations, partake in a ceremonial herbal session, then go into a yoga flow and sound bath to recharge and connect to source. I teach a slow-flow style of yoga from the Dharma lineage, which is great for veterans and trauma survivors because it is gentle and slow, activating your parasympathetic nervous system and getting you grounded and ready for the sound bath.
For my sound baths, I pull from three main spiritual traditions, weaving in bits and pieces from my own lived experience as a kid who grew up singing and playing the guitar at church, but then became a universally spiritual person. I add elements of Nada yoga with Aum chanting and crystal singing bowls, and I also weave in elements of the Shipibo lineage by singing icaros - the sacred songs used in plant medicine ceremonies, as well as the use of several other instruments. All of these musical elements serve as a powerful catalyst for your mind and spirit to drop into a deeply meditative state, one that is very similar to REM sleep. Your brainwaves actually sync to the vibrational frequency of the sound bowls, which allows you to process complex emotions and enter into an elevated state of consciousness. The end result is pretty awesome, and it is honestly my favorite thing in the world to do - offering these elevated yoga and sound bath experiences. I am looking forward to this and hope you can join!
"Hey I’m Will! I am a veteran, an artist, a yogi, and a psychedelic integration coach. I offer a variety of modalities to help people not just survive, but thrive in their lives and to think outside of the 9 to 5.
I found my way into the healing arts while trying to mend my own physical and emotional wounds after a decade of serving in the Army, first in the Infantry and later with Special Forces, leading combat missions in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the retrograde out of Afghanistan and the abandonment of our Afghan linguists and special operators was the last straw for me, as I felt the cognitive dissonance between our Green Beret Motto, “De Oppresso Liber” (to liberate the oppressed), and the reality of what was being done. I did everything I could to help get as many of my linguists and their families evacuated safely from Kabul, but in the process I suffered from very real compassion fatigue, as the cumulative effect of my physical injuries and my emotional wounds were too much to bear.
I ended up finally admitting to a mental health professional that I was not okay, suffering with suicidal ideations, and I asked for help. I was enrolled in a 12 week intensive outpatient program for trauma that emphasized the importance of self-care and shadow work. The last two modalities that the military offered me as I was being medically retired were Yoga and THC. Those two offerings saved my life. All of those experiences kickstarted my healing journey, and then years later, an ayahuasca retreat in Peru further catalyzed my desire to work in the healing space, specifically with plant medicine and with trauma survivors.
Now I live in Venice Beach and run my LLC, Elevated Ventures. In addition to yoga and sound healing, I also offer surfing lessons, breathwork, and integration coaching for plant medicine journeys. I work with veterans, athletes, executives, entrepreneurs, many of whom sit at various intersections of marginalized and oppressed communities. I love what I am doing and I am so grateful to have found a way to continue serving after the military, actually practicing what we preach with De Oppresso Liber, helping to liberate the oppressed by starting within and watching the ripple effect into the community. I am looking forward to hosting this event at Awoken Space, a place that truly fosters an inclusive environment for healing and connection."
