About this Event
This training provides participants with the knowledge and skills to engage deeply with Elements 1–6 of the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring (EEPM). Participants will identify their core program values and reflect on the ethical principles that inform strong program foundations (Element 1). They will consider how to integrate values into mission and vision statements, logic models, and theories of change that drive effective program design (Element 2), and discuss how incorporating community voice strengthens program impact.
Building on that foundation, participants will define targeted recruitment audiences and develop inclusive, strengths-based recruitment strategies for both youth (Element 3) and mentors (Element 4). They will write realistic recruitment messages that set clear expectations, highlight program benefits, and analyze recruitment materials to ensure they reflect the full diversity of the communities served.
The training also prepares participants to explain why thoughtful enrollment practices are critical. They will describe processes that ensure youth participants are well matched and committed (Element 5) and review mentor screening and enrollment protocols that safeguard program integrity, including applications, interviews, reference checks, and background checks (Element 6). Finally, participants will analyze their own screening practices through discussion and activities, applying continuous improvement principles to strengthen program outcomes.
This training is eligible for 7 CEUs through the Connecticut Certification Board upon completion.
