About this Event

Lumpy Grits Artistry from Shreveport, Louisiana will be showing their newest quarantine project in Shreveport,Louisiana and Bossier City, Louisiana. They will be presenting Elektra Afro-Greek Tragedy Short Film Premiere (Junior Edition), an ancient revenge-plot tragedy that was originally written by Sophocles circa 410 BCE. The setting takes place in Mycenae, an ancient city in Greece after the Trojan War. Elektra (Nya Thompson), a Mycenian princess, awaits the return of her younger brother Orestes (Landon Jeffers), to restore order and honor to the house of their slain father King Agamemnon. Young Orestes ( Jaxton Gilmer and Nathaniel Kaleb Coleman) was smuggled away to Phocis when he was a young toddler to avoid being killed by King Aegisthus goon ( Jerrick Thomas{Understudy for Aegisthus}). While in exile, Orestes is raised under the wisdom and guidance of the faithful Old Man (Edwin Sherman).

A twist between Cinderella/Hamlet, Elektra is forced to become a mere servant and wear raggedy clothing by her mother Queen Klytemnestra (Mary K. Jones) and her lover, fake King Aeigisthus (Will James). Elektra cries out constantly in front of the palace over being ill-treated and the M**der of her father. She clashes with her sister Khrysothemis (Chai Gray-Garrison) who knows that their mother and her trusty royal attendant (Aeiress Bonner{Understudy for Elektra}) strongly supports and even argues that women do not have as much power as men. Unlike Elektra, Khrysothemis lives the life of luxury. She is convinced that it is best to side with those who are in control.

Through it all, Elektra is consoled by the chorus women (Myesha “ Myy” Jones and Cherie Gray) and encouraged to have strong faith. Will Elektra and Orestes successfully unite to take back the throne from their cruel mother and her lover fake King Aeigusthus?
