Who is Elegua?
Eleguá is a Yoruba deity and one of the most important orishas in Afro-Caribbean traditions such as Santería and Ifá. He is the orisha of crossroads, paths, and beginnings, and nothing starts without his permission. Eleguá is the messenger between humans and the divine, opening or closing the way to opportunities and change. He represents movement, choice, destiny, and transformation, often described as playful, clever, and unpredictable. In dance, Eleguá is embodied through quick, grounded, and dynamic movements, sudden changes of direction, and a strong sense of rhythm and intention symbolizing the moment where a path is chosen.
