Acoustic string quartet compositions influenced by electronic music and jazz"The North Sea String Quartet is the Dutch jazz string quartet of the moment. The improvising string players shine a new light on the time-honored string quartet through their outspoken improvisations, innovative playing styles and idiosyncratic compositions, inspired by modern jazz, world music, contemporary classical and EDM.
The quartet has been active internationally for many years, notably in collaborations with artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire (VS), Trio da Kali (ML), Roland Satterwhite (US), Lilian Vieira (BR), Javier Infante (ES) and Samora Pinderhughes (US).
For their second album βZonarβ, the quartet researched the possibilities of translating sound textures from electronic music to the acoustic string group. An exciting collective discovery of prepared string playing, modular composition and improvisation resulted in sparkling compositions. This exclusive try-out at Batavierhuis will be the beginning of their international album release tour.
