Join us for Richmond's annual electric vehicle showcase. The centerpiece of the event will be the region’s largest display of EVs currently available, both new and used. Here is what will be going on (details subject to change):
* Demo drives of the Rivian R1S — Walk-up drives from 12 to 12:30 PM and 3:30 to 5 PM, drives by appointment only from 12:30 to 3 PM every half hour (register here: https://rivian.com/demo-drive/book; for location, select “Chesterfield-Electricarpalooza 2026”)
* A Legacy of Going Electric, 1 PM — We will preview a new documentary on a team of high school students in North Carolina who converted a gas car to electric for the EV Grand Prix in Richmond 30 years ago and how the experience shaped their lives. After the preview, there will be a conversation with Harold Miller and Eric Ryan, the lead teachers for the team; Byron Humphries, a teacher/sponsor of a competing team from Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School; and Caroline Kettlewell, a Richmond author who wrote about the team in her book "Electric Dreams." The discussion will be moderated by John Parker, who helped organize the team. During the rest of the day, the speakers will share stories and photos alongside Shocker II, the second iteration of the electric car conversion that made headlines decades ago.
* Policy Roundtable, 3 PM — Updates from the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County and Henrico County on their plans to support transportation electrification, including electrifying their fleets
* Electric mountainboard demo, 4 PM — Daniel Bell, DIY musician and media producer, shows how he goes off-roading in an electrified variation of a snowboard.
* The Future is Electric — This community art project will illustrate the interconnected technologies that are necessary to build a sustainable future based on clean energy. Event attendees are invited to add to the final product. This project is a collaboration with Art 180 and Talon 540 Robotics.
* Electrified Fun Zone for children, including Lego building and diecast car racing
* Micromobility: Small Vehicles, Big Impact — Find out how electric bicycles, scooters, skateboards and other micromobility options can be used not only for recreation but to replace car miles on short trips. Members of Richmond PEV will display their electrified rides and share their experiences.
* Opportunities to connect with local nonprofits, including the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, the Community Climate Collaborative, Electrifying Virginia, and the Falls of the James chapter of the Sierra Club
