“A perfectly cast John Rubinstein, brings our 34th president back to life in a drama filled with timely political lessons from a leader who strove to put country over party.” - Los Angeles Times
Tony Award winner John Rubinstein (Pippin, Children of a Lesser God) stars as President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground, a new American play by Richard Hellesen and directed by Peter Ellenstein. A candid and fascinating fictional eavesdropping on President Dwight D. Eisenhower at his Gettysburg farm. Experience this new critically acclaimed work in the town that Eisenhower called home, and in the theater that he regularly attended!
Eisenhower’s history in Gettysburg dates back to 1918 at Camp Colt, the U.S. Army Tanks Corps Training Center where he would eventually serve as commander. In 1950 Ike and Mamie purchased their Gettysburg farm which is now operated by the National Parks Service as Eisenhower National Historic Site. It is at their beloved farm that this play takes place. In the 1950s, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie Eisenhower regularly attended performances and films at the Majestic, sometimes in the company of world leaders. The theater's gymnasium, now the site of the cinemas, was used by the White House press corps from 1955 to 1961 for news conferences whenever President Eisenhower was in residence at his Gettysburg farm.
These performances are made possible in part by the Majestic Theater Centennial Endowment Fund.
