About this Event
To celebrate Eid al-Fitr, we are holding our annual New College Eid Potluck in the Rainy Hall on Tuesday 31 March from 3:30-5:30pm in the Rainy Hall. We have intentionally organised the potluck after Eid, as this is a family-oriented time for Muslims and students/staff may be going home to be with loved ones.
The programme will start with a short presentation on the significance of Ramadan and Eid. We'll then jump into some informal discussion of people’s own lived experiences and memories of Ramadan and/or Eid. And of course, then, we will tuck in to the scran! With respect to the food, please see the following Potluck Notes.
Potluck Notes
- As per potluck rules: if you are attending, please do try and bring a dish, maybe one that reflects your own background if possible! It can be savoury or sweet. If there are nuts, a sticky note should be included. Please also add a sticky note if your dish has meat (halal?), is veggie or vegan, gluten free, etc.
- If possible do email me in advance with the dish you are planning to bring [email protected]
- Logistically, please consider dishes that do not need to be heated up. There will be a microwave, but it is easier if no reheating is required. If reheating is a must, please bring a pot/container that can be put in a microwave. We won't have any pots on us.
- Don't worry about drinks - we are providing some beverages: jugs of water, sparkling water, juice, and non-alcoholic beer.
- You are welcome to wear something that reflects your own background (kilts included!). But you don't have to - only dress-up if you are comfortable doing so.
Everyone is welcome to attend. It's not about "Muslims" and "Allies" - it's about all of us (staff and students and other comrades in our community) coming together in relation to a day of the Islamic calendar to acknowledge and celebrate the religious diversity of our community. Feel free to bring family and friends!
Warm wishes,
Director of Equality Diversity and Inclusion and the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Committee
