BIO:

Edmar Colón
Puerto Rican saxophonist, pianist, and composer Edmar Colón brings a rich blend of jazz tradition, classical craft, and global influences to the stage. A Presidential Scholar and graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Colón studied under Danilo Pérez and Marco Pignataro and has performed at major festivals worldwide, including Detroit, Montreal, Monterey, and the Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival.

His compositions and arrangements have been featured by the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, the Detroit Jazz Festival Symphony Orchestra, and on Esperanza Spalding’s Grammy-winning album 12 Little Spells. Colón has also contributed to Wayne Shorter’s opera Iphigenia and received honors such as the Latino 30 Under 30 Award and first prize at the Keep An Eye International Jazz Awards.

Grounded in his Puerto Rican heritage and a deep commitment to storytelling through sound, Edmar Colón’s music is both intellectually daring and profoundly human.
Bob Toabe
Bob Toabe is a Boston-based pianist and composer whose improvisational voice blends lyrical sensitivity, rhythmic sophistication and a deep love for the jazz tradition. Featured alongside saxophonist Edmar Colón in intimate club and festival settings, Toabe brings a refined sense of touch and narrative to every performance. The Boston Calendar

In his work Toabe honours the lineage of the great piano-voices while carving out his own space—inviting listeners into thoughtful dialogues between standards and original compositions, heartfelt ballads and spirited grooves. His playing has become known in the New England scene for its clarity, glowing lyricism and the emotional directness behind every phrase.

For tonight’s concert, Bob Toabe leads his trio (or ensemble) on a journey through jazz’s many moods—from introspective reflection to joyful swing—offering a concert experience that is both accessible and deeply musical.
