About this Event
Join us on Thursday 25th April anytime from 6pm till late to meet fellow and aspiring Data Scientists in the lovely Cambridge Bar in New Town.
Our first meetup is purely social, but we are already planning talks with drinks and pizza for a few months time.
Everyone is encouraged to attend from across the Data Science realm whether you work in a small startup or a large corporate, if you are researching state of the art multimodal vision-language models in academia or just getting to grips with linear regression!
Motivation for this Data Science Meetup Group
As Data Scientists, we felt there is a need for a forum in Edinburgh where we can discuss the Science in Data Science and AI. There are indeed over 500 people in the Edinburgh area with the job title of "Data Scientist"!
There are always benefits from discussing problems we’re working on with our peers: How do we frame the problem? Is the analysis rigorous enough? Too rigorous? Is there a clever solution that anyone knows about? Or a boring, but robust one? There are also times we want to share something exciting we've learnt or celebrate something we are proud to have achieved!
Often, the best ideas come from a totally different perspective, hence the need for a community, especially one with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and life experiences.
We imagine a community of supportive, enthusiastic, curious, respectful individuals who find joy in sharing and helping each other think about Data Science problems and solutions. We plan to focus more on Data Science and thus complement the existing (and excellent!) Scotland MLOps meetups.
This Event
We will be upstairs at the Cambridge Bar in New Town on Young Street.
Unfortunately, for this first meetup we have not been able to reserve a venue that is accessible to those with limited mobility (there are some steep stairs to the Cambridge bar room). We are actively researching venues to make future events fully accessible.

Future Talks and Networking Events
We are planning to host some talks with pizza and drinks followed by a pub. If you are interested in speaking at or sponsoring one of these events do get in touch.
We want the shape and exact form of our meetups to emerge from within the community. How many presenters? How long? How much can or should one share? Are presentations grouped by theme? Business theme or problem type?
We'd love to get more people involved in organising, please come along at 5.30pm to meet the organisers or make yourself known during the evening.
