Artist Talk followed by Printmaking Demonstration
Conceived during the artist’s pregnancy, Edible Magic / Don’t Touch My Hair examines the space where admiration turns into objectification. As Katrina Andry navigated bodily change, unsolicited touch, and beauty products named after foods like “Cocoa” and “Cinnamon,” she began questioning why Black women are so often framed as consumable, mystical, and endlessly resilient rather than fully human.
Rooted in Andry’s broader practice—which challenges the myth of individualism and exposes how color-based prejudice enables inequality—the series confronts how narratives of “Black Girl Magic” can erase real vulnerability and suffering. Through both concept and printmaking process, Andry calls for a shift away from mythologizing Black womanhood and toward recognizing humanity as the most radical truth.
