Join us aboard Helen Mary R - spaces limited! It is a genuinely Corinthian event designed to raise money for charities nominated by the individual yachts which enter. A 26-mile offshore sailing course from Plymouth Sound, out around the Eddystone Lighthouse and back, be it large or small, racing or cruising (or neither), old or new, entry is welcomed! This event is open to all. It's also a great way to raise money for Morvargh!
The Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit is a fantastic annual event where we join a fleet of 60+ vessels participating in the South West's largest sailing fundraising event. The Eddystone Charity Sailing is 26 miles of fun to the Eddystone lighthouse and back! The funds we raise enable us to continue providing inspiring and life-changing sail training opportunities to young people. Through our adventure, explorer, expedition and day sailing programs, young sailors return home with increased motivation, confidence, teamwork, leadership and communication skills, and a fresh perspective on their self-worth and abilities.
Although this event has no berth fee, we ask participants to fundraise for the Project by raising sponsorship or undertaking fundraising activities. The suggested amount is not less than £50. We will send you a sponsorship form and a link to the Morvargh Eddystone Crowdfunder Link so you can share this on your Social Media.
The Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit is sponsored entirely by a private charitable trust and was first sailed in 2002. The event has raised over £1 million and £70,000 on average for the past 5 years, benefiting many charities. There is prize money to be acquired throughout the fleet in three categories: Individual, 3-Boat Team event and the 341 Smeaton Trophy Challenge. All yachts are automatically entered in the Individual event and can become part of a 3 Boat team if they sail for the same charity. If it is a single boat from a business with at least three staff members from the entering business sailing for one charity, it can enter the 341 Smeaton Trophy Challenge, but not both Team and Challenge events. Each year, a substantial sum of prize money will be distributed throughout the fleet, ALL of which goes to the charities nominated. It is such a great day afloat, and you don't need any experience to participate!
There may also be an opportunity to join the delivery leg from Fowey Harbour to Plymouth and back. There is an awards dinner in the evening that is usually held at the National Marina Aquarium, but tickets are sold separately by the Eddystone Charity Pursuit Organisers and have not yet been released.
If you are interested in joining the delivery legs or the awards evening once you have booked the voyage, please email us at [email protected], and we will send you further information.
