The Edale Skyline is arguably the most popular and challenging route in the Peak District. This 20-mile route is an adventure that should be on everyone's bucket list!
The Edale Skyline Challenge is so named as it takes you along the ridges and highest hills surrounding the village of Edale (Mam Tor, lose Hill, Win Hill, Back Tor and Brown Knoll. On this fantastic route we will be blessed with outstanding views, lots of geological and historical interest, and outstanding natural beauty of the Peak District on an amazing high level adventure.
Our walk will start and finish in the village of Hope in the Peak District, which is well served by transport links from Manchester and has plenty public car parks, as well as lost of places to eat or stay!
From Hope, we ascend to Win Hill Pike before heading west with views of Edale. We briefly join the Pennine Way as we head round the horseshoe towards Mam Tor, before heading along Peak District’s finest ridge to Lose Hill before descending to Hope for a celebratory drink!
The total elevation for this route is 1100m or 3600ft, so it would be a great personal challenge or a fantastic training walk for anyone looking to take part in other longer distance challenges, such as the Yorkshire Three Peaks or National Three Peaks.
The Edale Skyline requires a good level of fitness and you will need to be able to walk for 9 to 10-hours over hilly terrain. We aim to complete this walk in approx. 10 hours.
Rest assured that all our Trails are led by qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders, who will support you and encourage you along the way.
The price of £45 includes:
Fully guided walk with professional and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders,
A small, supportive group atmosphere (max. 10 participants per leader),
Full details of what to wear / bring and where to meet,
A Challenge Certificate upon completion.
Well behaved / friendly dogs (with people and other dogs) are welcome, but make sure they are capable and bear in mind that we are likely to encounter livestock on the way, so leads are needed. Additionally, please be aware that there are some stiles to negotiate along the route, which may pose challenges, particularly for larger dogs.
Please arrange your own transport and accommodation, if required.
We recommend having insurance to cover, at a minimum: cancellation and curtailment; medical and emergency expenses (including repatriation); personal accident; injury and death.
