Ed White Alumni - Join us Friday, November 22nd, 2024 for an informal reunion/get together for the Classes of 1976-1986, all for a good cause! You can make a significant difference in someone's life while reconnecting with old friends. For several years now, some Ed White alumni and others have been coming together for an annual BBQ luncheon, while also contributing to a worthy cause, the Trinity Rescue Mission homeless shelter downtown. Now, every year we look forward to reconnecting with old friends (Jeff Betros, Robbie Hogan, Eric Touchton, Wally Barrs, and many others, including Scott Leggett last year). My youngest daughter's sorority “adopted” St. Jude Children's Hospital as their official philanthropy, and they all supported St. Jude. Wouldn't it be fantastic if Ed White alumni adopted a local charity in Jacksonville? Could you consider the Trinity Rescue Mission homeless shelter downtown as one of the charities you support? They attempt to address the physical and spiritual needs of each individual. They also provide a community environment that fosters friendships and relationships. They heavily rely on individual donations ranging from $5 to $25 per month. With a smaller budget compared to similar organizations, every dollar counts and directly aids those in need. On a typical night, 15-20 children are sheltered downtown with their mothers. If you're unable to contribute financially, there are other ways to help, such as volunteering to serve a meal downtown. Each year, the homeless shelter hosts a BBQ luncheon after their clay shoot. I don’t participate in the clay shoot, but I love reconnecting with old friends (and I love BBQ, so I attend the luncheon 🙂). If you want to participate in the clay shoot that morning, or your company would like to be a sponsor of the event, we will post a link for that next month. Last year, the event raised around $100,000, yet there's no obligation to give during the event. We’ve already lost a lot of classmates, and time is flying by, let's get together while we can. This year the BBQ luncheon is free for all Ed White alumni from the classes of 1977 to 1983 (however, if you would like to donate $15 to the homeless shelter for your lunch they will be thankful for it, but we didn’t want financial constraints to hinder anyone from attending). Our goal is to eventually extend this event at no charge to all Ed White alumni classes. If you're from another class and wish to join the luncheon, you are welcome to attend for $15. The luncheon is a chance for us to come together, reminisce, and raise awareness for a good cause in Jacksonville. Feel free to share this post with all your Ed White friends!NOTE: We will NOT be spending money this year on expensive tents, tables, chairs, etc, but you are welcome and encouraged to bring a lawnchair so you don’t have to eat while standing up :-). The luncheon starts after the morning clay shoot finishes up, usually around 12:00 pm.
Venue: Jacksonville Clay Target Sports, 12125 New Berlin Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32226
Until then, if you're interested in giving to the homeless shelter, any contribution—whether a one-time or monthly donation, be it $5 or $10—can make a significant impact. Your generosity will be matched up to a total of $5000, amplifying the effect of your support. Here is the link to give:

The link above is not a link to register for the event. A link to register will be posted on Facebook sometime next month. The link above is if you’d like to contribute $5 - $25 (one time or monthly) to support the homeless shelter.
For now, if you want to attend the reunion luncheon, you can just respond on the FB event page that you are attending so we get an idea of how many lunches to prepare. Hope to see you there Lord willing! :-)
