This DATAMIND and MQ Workshop follows our workshop in April 2022, providing a forum for early career researchers in the mental health data science community to come together and explore innovative data science approaches in the field. The workshop is part of a series focusing on various innovative data science approaches in mental health research Data Management, Data Analysis, and machine Learning to be rolled out between 2022- 2024.
DATAMIND is HDR UK's Health Data Research Hub for Mental Health aiming at enabling researchers and others to find and use the UK's rich datasets and health records for mental health research. You can read more here.
About this event
This workshop will teach you to “think like a programmer” and why it is more important than the actual programming language you use. It aims to set you on your way to become a proficient programmer on a language of your choice, so that you can implement any methodology you desire, no matter how complex, to address your research question.

Who is the Workshop for?
Early Career Researchers from multiple backgrounds who share an interest in Mental Health and Data Science.
No previous knowledge of programming, R, or Python is required.
What do I need for the workshop?
Just bring your laptops! We will provide all workshop materials, including a data set to work from together during the workshop.
Who is conducting the workshop?
Marcos Del Pozo Banos, PhD, Senior Lecturer at Swansea University Medical School. Marcos has over 10 years of experience applying machine learning to a wide range of biometric problems in the fields of security, biology, and medicine. His research focuses on the analysis of routinely collected electronic health records for the study of suicide and self-harm prevention, applying advance machine learning techniques alongside traditional epidemiological methods.
What do we mean by Mental Health Data Science?
By Mental Health Data Science we refer to using existing administrative or healthcare data or linking of multiple data sources for mental health research. It can also involve novel analytic approaches, such as those combining expertise from statistics and/or computing science.
