Onde a Memória se Torna Futuro

Criado pela BANTUMEN em 2022, o MIA - Mês da Identidade Africana nasceu da necessidade de afirmar um espaço comum para as vozes, artes e narrativas da afrodescendência em Portugal. Desde então, tem-se consolidado como um território de reflexão, diálogo e criação contínua.

A exposição “Ecos da Memória”, apresentada inicialmente no âmbito da 4.ª edição do MIA - dedicada aos 50 anos das independências de Angola, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique e São Tomé e Príncipe - prolonga esse exercício de escuta e consciência histórica. Em vez de olhar para o passado como arquivo, a mostra propõe a memória enquanto eco vivo que reverbera no presente e abre caminhos para o futuro.

Com a curadoria de Ivanova Araújo, a mostra integra obras que dialogam entre si - onde a pintura, o desenho e a composição digital se encontram para refletir sobre processos históricos, memória coletiva e pertencimento.

•⁠ ⁠Gigi Origo (Cabo Verde / França) trabalha a sobreposição de linguagem e matéria, criando composições digitais em que textura, rosto e fragmento questionam aquilo que persiste e renasce na imagem.

•⁠ ⁠Ricardo Parker (Cabo Verde / Portugal) encontra na urbanidade o seu campo visual, traduzindo a cacofonia da identidade contemporânea através de tipografia e personagem.

•⁠ ⁠Sai Rodrigues (Cabo Verde / Holanda) faz da arte um lugar de afeto e imaginação, inspirando-se no ofício e nas histórias familiares para construir mundos onde o olhar é também narrativa.

Where Memory Becomes Future

Created by BANTUMEN in 2022, the MIA – African Identity Month was born from the need to affirm a shared space for Afro-descendant voices, arts and narratives in Portugal. Since then, it has become a platform for reflection, dialogue and ongoing creation.

Originally presented during the 4th edition of MIA — dedicated to the 50th anniversaries of the independences of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe — Ecos da Memória extends this exercise of listening and historical awareness. Rather than treating the past as a closed archive, the exhibition approaches memory as a living echo — one that resonates in the present and opens paths toward the future.

Curated by Ivanova Araújo, the exhibition brings together works that engage in dialogue — where painting, drawing and digital composition intersect to reflect on historical processes, collective memory and belonging.

Gigi Origo (Cape Verde / France) explores the layering of language and material, creating digital compositions in which texture, portrait and fragment question what persists and what is reborn within the image.
Ricardo Parker (Cape Verde / Portugal) finds his visual field in urban life, translating the cacophony of contemporary identity through typography and character.
Sai Rodrigues (Cape Verde / The Netherlands) approaches art as a space of affection and imagination, drawing from craft traditions and family histories to build worlds where the gaze itself becomes narrative.
