It would be relevant for counsellors, health workers, psychotherapists, social workers, mentors, coaches, youth-workers, walking group leaders, teachers/educators and other professional therapists.
Over these two days our aim is to enable you to:
• Gain confidence in working with others outside in nature
• Incorporate the symbols, metaphors and cycles of nature as a mirror of your inner journey
• Engage with others in exploring how to integrate eco-psychology into your everyday life and work
• Strengthen the sense of interconnection and inter-being with the more than human world
Course Content
• A three-strand model of eco-psychology overview
• Research on the benefits of working in nature
• Nature as therapeutic container
• Tracking our connection and disconnection in our relationship with nature
• Reciprocal connection with nature, a two-way whole system process.
• Eco-centric client assessment- indicators & contra-indicators for taking people outside
• Embodied Relational connection
• Spiritual ecology/deep ecology. Recognizing and being with our feelings in relation to the earth & the challenges we and future generations face in these changing times
• Sharing our favourite ecotherapy practices including working creatively & playfully in the landscape
• Practical essentials i.e. insurance – contracting, health and safety, boundary issues etc.
• Deep listening to nature, an inner stilling to deepening connection.
• Skills practice
• Eco-therapy indoors and outdoors.
About us
Jane Sanders has been working as a mindfulness based Psychotherapist since 1990. She first came across eco-psychology & deep ecology in the 1980’s reading John Seed and Joanna Macy and eventually training as a ‘Work that Reconnects facilitator. She went on to work at HazelHill wood near Salisbury as part of a the Wisdom tree collective offering days for teams we called ‘Nourishing the Front Line’. She developed one of the first ecopsychology curriculums for counselling trainees, – teaching eco-psychology on the Sweet Track counselling training for the last 12 years and has an outdoor psychotherapy practice at Hallr wood.
Deb Millar is a founder member of a small educational charity www.wilderwoods.org She has been running long term therapeutic forest school based programmes at Hallr Wood since 2008, with a strong focus on secondary aged young people, many with additional needs. Since 2016 she has also been working with young adults with autism on a Growing for Well Being Project near Baltonsborough.
Rich Southon has been involved in counselling and groupwork for nearly 20 years. He has now turned his hand to support the next generation of therapists teaching counselling at Sweettrack Counselling training in Glastonbury. He has an outdoor counselling practice seeing clients at Hallr wood.
Michelle Di-Lorenzo is co-founder of Clear Rising; a consultancy, training and therapy service built upon depth psychology and transpersonal practices. She is a therapist, supervisor and tutor, and is a Director of Sweet Track CIC; a psycho-spiritual training centre and low-cost counselling agency in Glastonbury. Michelle is co-creator of the CPCAB accredited Level 5 Diploma in Depth Psychology and the Transpersonal.
PLEASE NOTE:
There is a second weekend June 20-21 for further development of this work and there is a price reduction for those attending both. The second week-end is open to all our past students.
It may also be appropriate for those who have an established outdoor practice either with individual clients or groups –
(or bring ecopsychology into the therapy room).
