Eco Sculpture & Book Making - Creative Connections with Natural and Urban Materials

In this workshop, artist Kari Morseth will guide participants to explore resourceful and mindful making through weaving and journalling. Using simple techniques and accessible materials, participants will learn twining and two-string weaving methods to bind, connect, and create - forming both a small eco-artwork and a hand-made journal.
The session begins with mindful foraging and the making of two small folded books, followed by an introduction to twining with tīkōuka (cabbage tree) leaves and two string-weaving techniques for binding. Participants will use their handmade books for note-taking and sketches while exploring outside to gather additional materials – from leaves and fibres to found urban fragments.
Participants will then plan and construct a small eco-artwork using their collected materials and weaving techniques. The workshop concludes with a collaborative component in Te Atamira’s outdoor space.
