About this Event
Celebrate National Trails Day by Becoming an Eco-Hero at Sky Meadows State Park! Our region’s biodiversity is under threat from invasive plants that have quietly spread, outcompeting native species and disrupting the food chain. Join Rangers and volunteers to get out on the trails for an invasive species management walk. We will meet in the historic area, where you can become an eco-hero by learning to use and record observations in the iNaturalist app, which land managers will use to manage invasive species in our region. After becoming familiar with the app, participants will start making a difference right away by heading out onto the trails with veteran Trail Blazers and Virginia Master Naturalists to identify, record, and remove several invasive plant species present at the park.
No experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided. In addition to bringing your phone (downloading the app before your visit is recommended), please bring water and wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and supportive shoes. Supervised children are welcome.
Hiking distance will be about 1.5 miles.
