The European Contact Improvisation Teacher Exchange 2025 invites you to Warsaw for a special edition focusing on research and reflection through movement practice. This year, we explore how the physical and improvisational core of Contact Improvisation acts as a catalyst for building personal and collective resources—nurturing resilience, creativity, and the ability to connect.Through shared practice, we are reflecting on the nature of CI, the form’s capacity to develop our physical, psychological, and collaborative skills; its potential to nurture creativity, empathy, and trust; and its relevance in addressing societal and ecological challenges of today.
📍 Location: Mazovian Institute of Culture, Warsaw
💰 Participation fee: 150 EUR / 500 PLN
(Note: This is a non-residential event, but we support arranging student housing accommodation to stay nearby.)
How to Propose a Research Enquiry?
We invite you to propose a research topic, question, or path you wish to explore within ECITE 2025. Rather than offering a finished idea, think of it as an open enquiry—something you’re curious about and eager to dive into with others.
Our main focus is on the ways the physical and improvisational core of Contact Improvisation can help build personal and collective resources—supporting resilience, inspiring creativity, and strengthening our capacity to connect. Anything that matters to you is welcome, provided it can support a 4-day collective exploration.
We especially welcome proposals on themes such as:
⏺ CI fundamental skills
⏺ Care, resilience, and the ability to connect
⏺ CI in personal, social, and ecological contexts
⏺ CI in the contemporary world – challenges, synergies, unexpected links
⏺ Consent & boundaries
⏺ CI & performance
⏺ CI & music
And anything else that resonates with you and that you’d love to explore in a week-long inquiry
🔗 Send us your proposal via this form: https://forms.gle/8spfzhwnPDyhpVQ28
Deadline: 31 march 2025
What Happens Next?
From the submitted proposals, we collectively select 4 to 7 research paths to unfold throughout the week, running in parallel. If your proposal (or topic) is selected, you will facilitate a research enquiry with others drawn to the same topic. Your role won’t be to teach, instruct or present a finished idea but to guide and nurture a collective exploration gently. Teams and co-facilitators are especially welcome!
From the submitted proposals, we are collectively selecting 4 to 7 research paths to unfold throughout the week, running in parallel. Other shared activities like morning jams, guest visits, and discussion circles are also planned. Since these paths happen simultaneously, participants may only be able to engage with one or two.
Stage 2
If you don’t have a specific research enquiry to propose but want to collaborate on enquires proposed by others—just wait for the second round of registration in early April!
Once the research topics are set, we’ll reopen registration to all, allowing you to select the enquiry paths that resonate with you the most. Since the work takes place simultaneously, you can engage with just one or two paths. We plan an accompanying programme of whole group activities, including morning jams, workshops with special guests, and discussion circles.
Join us to move, reflect, and exchange ideas at the heart of CI practice.
