In New York City at the turn of the century, Jack Kelly is the charismatic leader of a band of teenaged "newsies." When the titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right.AUDITIONS:
Prepare a 30-60 second cutting from any Broadway or Disney song. Bring your accompaniment on a device. You may not sing acapella. While all Youth and Young Adult performers will dance in the show, there will not be a dance audition.
ROLES:
MALES: 28 males ages 14-30 including Jack, Davey, Les, Crutchie, Spot Conlon, and an large ensemble of singer/dancer newsies. 4 adult males as Pulitzer, Roosevelt, and goons.
FEMALES: 20 females ages 14-30 including Katherine Plumber, Brooklyn newsies and Bowery Beauties. 1 adult female role- Medda Larkin. There is also a small adult ensemble of small speaking and singing roles.
REHEARSALS:
Generally 3-4 nights per week from 7-9:30pm Mondays through Thursdays, with occasional Saturday morning and Sunday night dance rehearsals and promotional events.
SHOWS:
4 public performances June 13-15, 2025 at the Pablo Center at the Confluence.
