About this Event
Join native food FANatico Antonio Sanchez as he dives deep into California native food plants, and shares recipes and samples of some of his favorite native foods! This in-person class takes place indoors at Artemisia Nursery, and over 2 hours, the class will cover:
- A fun, shareable powerpoint talk on 10 easy to grow edible native plants that are easy or kind of easy to grow in Southern California
- A few live cooking and food prep demos, showing you how cheap and easy it can be to incorporate native foods into your diet
- Take home bonuses, including seed of edible native plants to grow on your own, and a few samples to take home and share with friends and family
- Food samples will include Hummingbird Sage Honey, Cleveland Sage Pesto, Mesquite Flour Waffles, Black Sage Mojitos, Roasted Saltbush Seasoning, Cleveland Sage Ice Cream and more!
ABOUT the Wannabe Chef and Presenter:
Antonio Sánchez was co-lead organizer for the California Native Food Symposium, and has led native food workshops around the state. He has been working around native plants for nearly 2 decades, and is currently the nursery manager and restoration volunteer outreach coordinator for SAMOFund in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. He is co-founder and lead singer of the native plant band Sage Against the Machine (@nativesageagainstthemachine) and believes in making native plants fun and approachable to all. He loves learning about and teaching old and new ways with native plants, and he knows, 100% without a doubt, that Hummingbird Sage is the prettiest California native sage, but Salvia pachyphylla is a close second.
