About this Event

Easy Access Panshanger Orangery & Great Oak Walk

Explore the History, Heritage, and Majestic Oak of Panshanger Park

Join us for a captivating event at Panshanger Park as we delve into the rich history of the estate, visit some key heritage sites, and marvel at the renowned Panshanger Oak.

Led by David, our knowledgeable volunteer historian, this guided walk will take you through the northern section of the park. Along the way, David will share the fascinating story of the family who once called this place home, including the significant events that shaped their legacy.

The walk begins at the site of the former Panshanger House, where you’ll be able to imagine the grandeur of the estate in its heyday. From there, we’ll take in the stunning views across Repton’s Broadwater as we stroll along the south terrace, following the same path once walked by notable visitors. We’ll also explore the Dairy Garden and visit the Orangery, before concluding at the iconic Panshanger Great Oak, a landmark that has been visited by royalty, ambassadors, prime ministers, celebrities, and even film crews.

This easy-paced walk is approximately one mile in length and mostly flat, with some sections along gravel or grassy paths. There is a short downhill section at the Oak, followed by a gentle uphill stretch (though participants may choose to retrace the route if they prefer to skip this part). Please note that paths can be uneven, and weather conditions may make some areas muddy, so we recommend wearing appropriate footwear.

Parking is available at the site of Panshanger House. Please meet us there, entering the park via the B1000 Tarmac entrance by White Lodge (not Thieves Lane or Panshanger Lane). Please arrive at 10.15 for a promp start. After the walk, the parking area will be locked, so if you wish to continue exploring, please move your car to one of the chargeable carparks.

This event is FREE, but spaces are limited. To secure your spot, please book in advance.

For any questions, please contact [email protected].

This guided walk is part of Tarmac's community programme at Panshanger park.
