Saint Innocent Orthodox Church invites the community to its annual Taste of Orthodoxy Festival, a celebration of Eastern European and Greek culture, Saturday, October 11, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the historic church grounds at 939 F Street in Eureka.A beloved Humboldt County tradition since 1997, the festival offers an afternoon of music, dance, and culinary delights for all. Festival goers can enjoy homemade Eastern European and Greek food, sample imported spirits at the full bar, and visit the Russian Tea Room for international sweets paired with a variety of loose-leaf teas.
Visitors will enjoy live entertainment by Chubritza. This internationally inspired local folk band will bring the afternoon to life with vibrant Balkan and Eastern European melodies and traditional group dancing that invites everyone to take part. There will also be a Byzantine choir performance and guided tours of the church’s historic temple, originally built in 1883 and recognized as the oldest standing church building in Eureka.
Saint Innocent Orthodox Church is the heart of Orthodoxy in Humboldt County. The church is named after Saint Innocent of Alaska, the first Orthodox bishop of the Pacific Northwest, renowned for his life spent humbly serving native Alaskans. Saint Innocent’s parish welcomes all visitors curious about its apostolic roots and growing community.
