About this Event
The music program will be an extended improvisation on original themes. The concert room has a stage with a Steinway grand piano and excellent acoustics.
The Ethical Society building is accessible. See here for details. The building is located on Rittenhouse Square, a beautiful public park with a fountain and reflection pool. There are dozens of restaurants within a 10-minute walking distance.
All proceeds of the concert will go to support the non-profits Artwell and the Linden Camp summer nature program of the Ethical Society. Both programs serve children from underserved communities in Philadelphia.
Kip Leitner is a jazz pianist. His improvisational works explore the varied nature of human emotion through piano music, from the landscape of music's quiet, sparse expanses to its more dense, energetic clusters. The themes of tonight's work have been in development for more than 15 years.
Kip is a veteran pianist and has played in houses of worship and performed in nightclubs and universities, as both a soloist and in small groups, including Broadway singers. Early in life he was a student at the Eastman School of Music. He got his start in jazz in 1987 at the "Green Parrot," a musician's nightclub in Dallas, Texas.
