About this Event
Join us for an immersive workshop where you will walk from the TOAST shop to Hampstead Heath to learn the geology of the Heath and how to recognise natural pigments in our local environments. The walk will be followed by a workshop in the shop where you will process earths and other materials that have been collected by Sarah Needham from around the world to make small samples of pigment to take home.
An exhibition of Needham’s work will also be displayed from 30 May to 02 June.
Sarah Needham is an abstract painter living and working in Muswell Hill, North London. Her practice explores the notion that the material she uses to create her art carries meaning in-and-of-itself – pigments that are broken down by pestle and mortar tell the story of the geological history of the earth.
