Our nervous systems evolved in relationship with the Earth. The rhythms of water, soil, trees, and sunlight are the original signals that regulate the human body. When the environments around us become polluted or neglected, those signals become distorted. When we restore the Earth, we restore clarity to our own internal systems.
This community clean up is more than just picking up trash. It is an act of restoring coherence between people and the environment that gives us life.
The headwaters of Shem Creek are where water begins its journey through the marsh and into the harbor. By caring for the beginning of that flow, we help protect everything downstream, including wildlife, waterways, and the communities that depend on them.
Cleaning the Earth is not separate from caring for ourselves. The Earth regulates our breath, our food, our water, and the signals that calm and organize the nervous system.
When we take care of the source of life, we strengthen the systems that sustain our own.
