About this Event

Calling all super storytellers in S1 - S3! The Super Power Agency wants you!

Join us for a 5 day creative writing adventure and get inspired to write and make your own poems, stories and zines. If you want to get outside and get creative this summer, then this is the workshop for you!

Earth Adventures: creative writing for a greener future

In this workshop, we'll be exploring the ways that creative writing can help to create a more sustainable future. We'll be imagining the world we want to see, and creatively connecting with the ecosystems we're part of. Get ready to try out sci fi, ecopoetry and life writing! Plus games, time to explore, and new friends.

We'll be putting it all together in a collective zine (DIY book) to create our manifesto for the future of Edinburgh. You don't need any previous experience, just a willingness to have a go and see what happens when we combine imagination and working to change the world for the better!

Where is the workshop happening?

Monday 8th - Friday 12th July 2024

Bridgend Farmhouse, 41 Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4TE

11am - 2:30pm

We'll start each day in our Summer Writing Hub at before heading out to explore our surroundings in nearby Craigmillar Castle Park. Let your imagination run wild in this scenic and historic part of the city, before returning to Brigend Farmhouse to turn your ideas into your own creative writing projects. On our final day, we'll invite friends and family to an informal sharing and celebrate your creativity and ideas together!

Who is this workshop for?

This 5 day creative writing workshop is for anyone aged S1 - S3 who is interested in writing, storytelling and getting inspired by the outdoors. You don't need any previous writing experience, just bring your imagination and enthusiasm!

The workshop is completely free to attend and lunch will be provided each day.

All workshop materials will be provided.

What is Super Power Agency?

Super Power Agency is a literacy charity based in Edinburgh. Through our writing programmes in schools and communities, it's our mission to enable young people to discover their creative confidence and write their own story.

Your Creative Writing Facilitator

Your Creative Writing Workshop will be led by writer, performer, and arts and outdoor learning facilitator Linden McMahon. They write about our connections with ecology, dreams for the future, ideas about belonging and family, and queer joy! Through their work they help young people connect creatively with nature and the world around them.

Linden has been an artist in residence at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, created a trail of poems and stories through the community gardens of Bethnal Green with the Live Art Development Agency. They have a book of eco poems, All the plants I have half-grown, out with Stewed Rhubarb Press. They also like baking elaborate desserts, making pots, and reading sci-fi novels.

Linden has previously worked with Super Power Agency's sister organisation Ministry of Stories in London where they ran creative writing clubs for young people. We're really excited to have them with us here in Edinburgh!

You can find out more about Linden's work here.

Our Volunteers

All Super Power Agency workshops are supported by our incredible team of volunteers. Our volunteers come from all different walks of life, but they all share the same passion for supporting young people to get creative!
