The Psoas Muscle, also referred to as The Muscle of the Soul, embodies our survival instincts and primal urges and could well be called the fight or flight muscles of the human anatomy. What/where are the psoas, you may be asking?
The psoas muscles are our deepest core muscles. We truly need our psoas for day-to-day functioning. A tense, restricted, tight, or neglected psoas can’t do its job and other muscles like the back and shoulders work overtime to compensate. This leads to low back pain, shoulder and upper back pain, pelvic pain, and overactive quadriceps muscles. The psoas even have a role in our breathing, as they attach to the diaphragm via connective tissue!
In this Yamuna workshop we will systematically release the psoas and illiacus from origin to insertion.
The psoas are muscles (there are 2 of them) originate at the 12th thoracic vertebrae (mid-back) and the 5th lumbar vertebrae (low back) on either side, run through either side of the pelvis, and insert at either side of the lesser trochanter of the femur (inner thigh bone at the hip). No other muscles in our body connect our torso to our legs- the psoas have a big responsibility!
Their responsibilities include:
*Flexing the hip joint- think about the action of bending one knee toward the chest; think about the action that occurs at the front of the hip when riding a bike, or walking up stairs
*Flexing the torso- think, bending forward to pick something up off the ground
*Stabilizing our spine- think, sitting with good posture or standing upright
This workshop is good for back issues, intestinal health, weak or tight hip flexors, deep inner groin opening, adductor stimulation, abdominal toning, and lower/mid back health. We will be clearing out old tensions and residue from the past that may be trapped in this vulnerable area. Join us for this liberating experience!
This is a continuation of a perpetual Psoas Liberation Party...
no two are ever the same and each one stands alone to welcome newcomers. If you find yourself seeking inspiration as we prepare for a victorious New Year, this class might be the perfect experience!
Please pre-register/pre-pay by Friday 12/26 as we need a confirmed 8 for this experience to happen. Thank you so much.
