Early Music at St. James presents the third concert of the 25/26 season featuring Upon a Ground with Louella Alatiit, baroque violin, and Jonathan Stuchbery, baroque guitar.Louella Alatiit and Jonathan Stuchbery explore the phenomenon of music for violin and for guitar in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries through the lens of the popular style of ground bass divisions (variations written over a repeating bass line), and through the music of Italian violinists and guitarists, including Nicola Matteis, Francesco Corbetta, and Francesco Geminiani, who established successful careers in England.
Early Music at St. James takes place in the superb and intimate acoustics of the St. George Chapel in St. James Cathedral. Admission is pay-what-you-can (suggested donation of $20/$15) in support of this series and the arts at St. James Cathedral.
