April 19: Walk and Talk 9 - 1p at the East Applegate Ridge Trail (directions and carpool option provided after registration)
Join Rachel Werling for an engaging walk and talk exploring Oregon’s earliest and latest blooming wildflowers in the field. From resilient species that brave the chill of late winter to those that extend the color of summer well into fall, we’ll take a closer look at the adaptations, habitats, and ecological roles of these seasonal bloomers. We'll also discuss choosing native plants for your garden to provide nectar and habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects throughout the seasons.
This wonderful trail skims the ridges between Sterling and Bishop Creeks with many expansive views. We will meander through forests, oak savannahs, grassy hillsides and spring wildflowers in an easy-to-moderate hike almost 6 miles total (~ 3 miles to the high point of almost 3,200 ft. and the return the way we came), with mostly a gentle 3% grade but with a couple of steady climbs of about 200 ft elevation gain. Please check that you are fit for 6 mile of unpaved hiking with a few hills. More information https://www.applegatetrails.org/east-art-trail
