About this Event
More and more, the notion of sharing space and resources crops up in everyday conversations: a trend which differs from the traditional single-family dwellings glamourized in modern Western culture. It seems folks are interested in finding ways to slow down and to be in an intentional community that is meaningful, restorative, and affordable.
In the same discussions about reimagining home and family are concerns on how to navigate community with integrity, respect, and kindness. Questions around managing conflict, articulating boundaries, and establishing reciprocity invariably come into the conversation. How do we do things differently?
In Group Living and Other Recipes: A Memoir, Lola Milholland offers one person’s perspective on how to restructure the way that we live and connect in community. Interspersed throughout the book are food recipes that give us a taste of what it was like for Lola and her chosen family to live under one roof.
Shakti in the Mountains along with Atlas Books, an independent, worker-owned bookstore, invites you to join us on the eve of the Summer Solstice to explore the stories found in Group Living and Other Recipes. Over the course of the evening, you will have opportunities to:
- Share your thoughts about the book and learn how others feel about intentional community.
- Eat delicious food made from the recipes found in the book
- Learn more about the new Slow Food Tri-Cities organization
- Experience meaning and pleasure in community
We invite you to register now for this event to ensure you receive your copy of Group Living and Other Recipes with plenty of time to explore the book beforehand. Atlas Books will notify you when your copy is available for pick-up at Shakti in the Mountains.
Seating is limited to 25 people. Registration will close two days prior to the start of the event so our cooks have time to shop and to prepare the food that will be served. Please email Kim if you have any food allergies.
