A Brigid's Day Celebration with Eamonn Flynn and Dublinesque featuring special guests The Glide Memorial Choir, Shay Black and many more…Brigid’s Day, February 1st - Lá Fhéile Bríde - celebrates Ireland’s matron saint. It was also one of the most important days of the year for our rural ancestors. With its origins in the Celtic festival of Imbolc, Brigid’s Day was the festival of fertility and marked the beginning of spring in Ireland. It signalled an end to the darkness of winter and ushered in a new season of hope and growth. People celebrated the day with a festive meal and a host of customs, all aimed at securing St Brigid’s protection and promise of new life and abundance for the year ahead. This musical celebration of Brigid will feature Eamonn Flynn's Irish music quartet Dublinesque as well as many special guests. All to honor Brigid and herald the beginning of Spring!
Eamonn Flynn forges his own brand of Irish soul. The Dublin-born singer-songwriter/pianist got his start with "The Commitments," a hit film about an Irish soul band, and has since worked with American blues and R&B stars Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Evelyn Champagne King, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), The Ray Charles Project, and many more. He also kept a hand in Irish music playing with Shay and Michael Black and Finbar Furey and has played piano and organ for many years at San Francisco's Glide Memorial Church.
Flynn's new quartet DUBLINESQUE brings his deep soul and gospel roots together with the Irish music traditions he was raised on.
