Training Lead

Rebecca Hughes

Specialist Teacher

I have been a primary school teacher since 1999, teaching across Somerset and Devon. I have had a variety of roles during this time; SATs marker, tutor, computing lead and most recently teaching at a local school being in charge of coordinating English and Year 5/6 lead. I have delivered training on Accelerated Reader across the school, Read, Write Inc, the vocabulary project, No Nonsense Spelling and Grammar, have been moderated for English and supported those in Key Stage One who are going through the same process.

I have always had an interest in specific learning difficulties, but it was not until after my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyscalculia that I wanted to know more. My son was really struggling at school, and I needed to be able to support him better at home.

I was very fortunate to be able to complete a PG in SpLD at Edgehill University. This course was 18 months long, very full on but extremely informative. This qualifies me to be able to teach and assess for dyslexia. Once qualified, I then set about completing training in dyscalculia and here I am.

I now work for the Devon SpLD (Dyslexia) Service based at QE and carry out private assessments.
