TOPIC DESCRIPTION
Dynamics of Domestic Violence will cover information about the core components that make up abuse in relationships such as the cycle of violence and power & control over victims. Participants will review these and understand different types of control and abuse in order to better understand why victims may or may not stay in abusive relationships. Other topics discussed will include the public health impact of domestic violence in the US and in Arkansas, strategies for supporting those who may be experiencing abuse, and helpful resources in NWA and beyond.
PRESENTER BIO
Elaine Jackson is the Director of Community Engagement & Education at NWAWS, and has worked in domestic violence advocacy for over 4 years. Elaine began at NWAWS developing a Housing Program for survivors leaving shelter and beginning new homes of their own, and she has a deep passion for access to affordable and safe housing. Currently, she enjoys working with community members in NWA at all age levels to better understand DV in order to end generational cycles of abuse.
