Mystery Friends
Though cheekily self-described as "moderately danceable," Mystery Friends doesn't want you to sit still. Falling somewhere between Talking Heads and Dua Lipa, the Washington, DC-based band has captivated audiences with high-energy live performances, offering a sound the Washington Post described as "new wave and synth-pop, made timeless with a solid foundation of pop-rock songwriting and the dramatic vocals of frontwoman Abby Sevcik." Argo and the Violet Queens are a psychedelically driven band based out of Washington D.C. that blend surreal stage props with nostalgic visual aesthetics and sociopolitical lyricisms in order to create a uniquely abstract world in which the music lives.
Sonically, all four members make unique contributions to the band’s sound as they weave through explorations of what the 20th century’s preeminent genres can be once altered in a modern setting.
From their implementation of seventies dance sensibilities, abstract auditory textures, fifties rock and roll aesthetics, and rhythmic flourishes informed by jazz tradition the band maintains an open canvas for their eclectic influences to take form.
