In a dystopian Gotham City rife with over-policing, over-medicating, and hyper-surveillance, a trans comedy terrorist called JOKER THE HARLEQUIN begins an incendiary culture-jamming “anti-comedy” project that threatens to bring the established order to its knees. With the help of the misfit rogues gallery that populate her homegrown comedy club, can she turn the tides against the closeted abuser Batman and his evil co-conspirator, comedy impresario Lorne Michaels??? Can she come to grips with the complicated abuses and negligences of her queer childhood, or is Gotham doomed to be numbed into a grey haze of bad comedy and worse stupor???
Born from a dare from a friend, Vera Drew’s homemade, patchwork cut-up editing project blossomed from a mid-pandemic homebound gag into a full-blown, feature length film of intense personal examination, community art – and hotly contested legal dispute.
