Duck house welcomes you for something a little different this time...From being a child I have grown up singing in English folk clubs, whether it was at the local pub or in my grandmas cozy basement.
A traditional English folk club set up is in the round, meaning everyone sits together in a circle and we go round, taking turns to share 1 or 2 songs and then we move on to the next person. There is no pressure to sing if it comes to your turn and you don't feel ready you can pass and wait for the next round, or not play at all and simply be there to listen. listeners always welcome! The effect of sharing music like this creates a sense of co-created craftmanship and synergy; its an ancient way of experiencing music. The evening will be playful, informal, attentive and intimate. There is no sign up required, simply come and sit and the night will unfold as its meant to.
As per duck house tradition everything will be unplugged and will be amplified by means of a bespoke custom made "Piano-phone" its a one of a kind design made here in Margaret river and has been created by modifying and restoring an old piano. The sound vibrations from the musicians will be picked up by the piano strings and the sympathetic resonance will then be what is heard, making for a really special experience for audience and musicians. People will be here to really experience and take in the moment, an ode to listening... real listening.
All proceeds from ticket sales for this session will go towards educating Dalit caste street children in Nepal, direct through an independent grass roots not for profit https://freedomthrougheducationnepal.com/ (RAWCS Project 82/2017-18). There will be an ethically sourced Kathmandu market stall with genuine handmade incense, prayer flags, brass ornaments, jewelry and other handmade items.
