A journey from Irelands 1916 Rising to the foundation of our State and the events in McKee Barracks and surrounds, and the people involved.
About this Event

Completed in the 1890's, McKee Military Barracks located on Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin, is an iconic and unique landmark. Now functioning as a headquarters for the Irish Defence Forces, and home of Irelands famous Army Equitation School, it was originally built as a Cavalry Barracks by the British. Recently, much of the beautiful Elizabethan and Queen Anne architecture has been restored to its former beauty.

Our local Historian and Author, Ronnie Daly, will take you back to one of the most turbulent periods of Irelands history. It will be a fascinating insight into the events in and around Dublin from when our revolutionary leaders rose up in 1916, to the War of Independence, through to the founding of the Free State and Ireland's bloody Civil War. McKee Military Barracks was very much at the epicentre of this period, and many key Irish and British figures have an association with the barracks. The interactive tour will also be complimented by some or our treasured historical and military artefacts with a direct link to our founding fathers and birth of our State.

Refreshments and food will be served from 5.30pm, with the tour commencing at 6.00pm. Access to the Officers Mess, a beautiful feature in itself bustling with history and art, will be granted following completion of the tour at 8.00pm, where guests can enjoy a drink and a chat with Ronnie and our Staff.
