In October 2026 Darwin Theatre Company will present William Shakespeare’s classic play HAMLET. This will be a two-hour Hamlet that focuses on psychological tension rather than spectacle. The world of Elsinore is imagined as a watched state, where appearances, loyalty, and behaviour are constantly managed. In contrast, Hamlet refuses that armour — emotionally and physically — and his vulnerability becomes the threat to a system built on control. Queerness exists naturally within this world, but the real tension is between conformity and refusal: the regime can tolerate difference, but it cannot tolerate someone who refuses the role assigned to them. An information session will be held at the Charles Darwin University theatre on Sunday 17 May at 2pm. Most roles are not gender or age specific so everyone who is interested is encouraged to come along to the information session for more details. Audition packs will be available on the day.
