Decades of commercial development and interstate run-off has turned much of Trussville’s Dry creek into a littered drainage ditch lined with riprap. You may have noticed garbage accumulated in the drainage ditch in front of Attic’s Plus, behind the YMCA, or near the Harley Davidson dealership. That is part of Dry creek. Those areas of the creek collect trash that is washed down from the interstate and commercial developments uphill. The sections of creek that are most visible from the road might not look like much more than an ugly drainage ditch. But, the natural undisturbed sections of the creek are truly beautiful. This creek is actually a Spring fed tributary that brings crystal clear water down to the Cahaba River. The mouth of this tributary at the Cahaba is filled with red eyed bass, red horse suckers, and the prettiest bream in the state. It is also regularly filled with garbage. When Dry creek floods it dumps massive amounts of trash into the Cahaba. Please join us Thursday April 22nd at 4:00pm to help clean a portion of this tributary. The sign up station will be in the YMCA parking lot next to the buses.
If you have a large group willing to help please let me know.
