About this Event
Join Prospect Park Alliance for a historical and musical exploration of a little-known uprising of enslaved Africans that occurred in 1706 in New Utrecht, one of six historic Dutch settlements in today's Brooklyn. Enslaved Africans throughout the Americas continually revolted to gain their freedom. Learn about the revolt and listen to the coded drum beats that may have been used to coordinate it.
Also enjoy our exhibit about the important and varied roles Black people played in the Battle of Brooklyn, on view in the Lefferts yard, and take our tour of our replica Battle Pass fortifications on view as part of our U.S. 250th anniversary celebrations. Learn more.
