About this Event
Join us for an educational journey into the power of the Native American drum and the living traditions of powwow. This class will explore the origins, styles, spiritual meaning, and cultural importance of the drum, from ancestral traditions to present-day singers. Participants will also learn about the history of the modern intertribal powwow, the meaning behind different dance styles, and the regional diversity found across Turtle Island. Through video, lecture, and live demonstration, this program offers a deeper understanding of the songs, dances, and cultural knowledge that continue to carry these traditions forward. The class will conclude with live song and dance.
