Learn the skills to sing songs on the spot! Based on the soon-to-be sunset musical improv show Dropped Notes (Portland, OR), this workshop will teach you how to turn suggestions into catchy songs. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to source inspiration to create simple choruses and instant lyrics that you’ll be singing long after the workshop is done. This workshop is ideally for those with musical improv experience looking to level up their skills.
You'll learn how to:
- Create songs and stories in the moment
- Turn simple prompts into memorable choruses
- Play short-form musical game formats
About Your Instructor:
Mary C. Parker (she/her) is a veteran improv performer with over a decade of experience across Portland, London, Pittsburgh, and Seattle. She has appeared at festivals in Richmond, Edinburgh, and Pittsburgh, and taught improv at Kickstand Comedy and Bandit Theater. Her improv journey began as a member of The High Scores, a musical improv team in Pittsburgh, and she went on to produce “Spill the Tea,” a musical improv radio show. Mary has performed with Acaprov in London, Dropped Notes in Portland, and was a regular guest with Your Life: The Musical in Pittsburgh, showcasing her versatility in short-form, long-form, and narrative musical improv. Offstage, Mary is as tall as Beyoncé, a reality-show enthusiast, and a mac and cheese aficionado who believes not all mac and cheese is created equal. More at www.marycparker.com.
