Ever wanted to put up a shelf, hang a picture, or tackle a DIY project — but not quite sure where to start with a drill? This hands-on workshop is for you.Join us for Drill Skills, a practical beginner's evening designed to give you the confidence and know-how to pick up a drill and get going. Organised by the Share Shed and the charity Network of Wellbeing, this event is part of our mission to empower people with everyday skills — because everyone deserves to feel capable in their own home.
What you'll learn:
- The different types of drills and which to use for which job
- Drill bits and rawl plugs — what they are and how to choose the right ones
- Using a drill as a screwdriver
- How to make holes in breeze blocks, stone, wood, and plasterboard
- Putting up shelves — from start to finish
- This is a hands-on workshop. You'll be practising on real materials, so come ready to have a go!
Your workshop leaders: The session will be led by John Alton, coordinator of the Dartington Repair Café, and Andy Bennett, a retired electrical engineer — between them, they bring years of practical expertise and a real passion for sharing skills with their community.
Bring your own drill, screwdriver bits and drill bits if you have them — and if you don't, no worries! Drills will be available to borrow on the night courtesy of the Share Shed.
Refreshments will be provided, and there'll be plenty of time for questions.
