Dressmaking Workshop. Part 2: Cutting & Sewing Your Dress

Focus: Fabric preparation, cutting, and sewing techniques

Turn your pattern into a real dress! In Part 2, you’ll work hands-on with fabric, learn professional sewing techniques, and gain tips for achieving a polished, finished garment.

This session will guide you through the essential steps of sewing your dress:

• Preparing your fabric for cutting
• Understanding grainline layout
• Professional tips for pattern placement on fabric
• Cutting instructions and efficient workflow
• Basic sewing techniques for dress construction
• Introduction to adhesive interfacing for professional finishes

By the end of the class, you can either finish your dress at home or continue during our Open Sewing Project hours. This workshop focuses on clean construction, confidence with fabric, and practical sewing skills you’ll use again and again.

Hi there! I’m Julia Medeiros, a seasoned professional in the world of apparel.

With over 20 years of experience under my belt (yes, I started early!) I've honed my skills as a tailor, pattern maker, and sewing technologist. Specializing in women’s clothing, and utilizing my One Fitting method, I’ve brought countless unique garments to life, turning my clients’ visions into reality. I have deep experience with teaching sewing classes around the world I am excited to bring my expertise to The Nest.
