ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Kevin Carney, UC San Diego Class of 1996, is a digital artist with over two decades of experience in the film and television industry. He has worked in a variety of roles on several animated feature films, including Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Megamind, The Simpsons Movie, and The Polar Express.
Kevin has also created visual effects for films such as Night at the Museum, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Garfield: The Movie. In addition, he worked as an animator on television shows including Silver Surfer and South Park.
Passionate about sharing his expertise, Kevin has taught animation courses at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, UCLA Extension, and Santa Monica College.
ABOUT THE CENTER:
The Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, part of the School of Arts and Humanities, serves as the university’s hub for creative and academic advancement in culture, music, theater, film and the arts. The center provides access and opportunity for UC San Diego students and scholars to pursue their passion in cinematics arts through research, scholarship, teaching, production and exhibition of film and moving-image arts. Established in 2021, the program honors the memory of aspiring filmmaker Suraj Israni, who pursued film as a way to inspire social change.
