Jo Quail is a London-based composer and virtuoso cellist, renowned for her innovative use of live looping. Her music moves effortlessly between crushing heaviness and delicate intimacy, blending organic flow with intricate sonic architecture. Whether performing solo or with ensembles, Jo creates deeply immersive and transformative live experiences.
Rooted in contemporary, classical, metal and avant-garde traditions, her work resonates with a remarkably broad audience. Jo Quail has performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including Hellfest (FR), Melbourne Recital Centre (AUS) and Royal Festival Hall (UK), and has collaborated with artists such as Amenra, Wardruna, Enslaved, Emma Ruth Rundle, MONO and Myrkur, among many others.
As a commissioned composer, Jo’s works include The Cartographer (By Norse), premiered at Roadburn Festival in 2022, alongside music for orchestras, choirs, film and documentary. In September 2024, she premieres her latest large-scale work Macha at Ahoy Rotterdam, commissioned by the Dutch Nationale Taptoe.
